In honour of International Nurses Day, we are shining a light on the dedication, skill, and invaluable contributions of our nurses.
Their care and expertise lay the foundation of the support we provide across our Caring Centres and at home.
In recognition of this, Amaroo is featuring two of our nurses who go above and beyond in their role.
In our first blog post, we introduce you to our Registered Nurse at Buckley Caring Centre, Jyoti.
Meet Jyoti
“The most important part of being a nurse is building meaningful relationships”, shares Jyoti.
“I feel very proud when I receive appreciation from residents and their families. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes all my hard work worth it. It is rewarding to know that I have made a difference in someone’s life.”
At Amaroo, our Registered Nurses ensure that care is provided to residents according to their needs and preferences. They provide clinical assessments, appropriate pain relief, and wound care, among several other responsibilities.
The beginning of Jyoti’s nursing career
Jyoti first decided to study nursing after she was suddenly brought to hospital to look after a family member.
“There, I met a nurse who opened the door to a new passion for me. She was so confident, caring and supportive.”
Following this encounter, Jyoti completed a Diploma of Nursing in Kalgoorlie. She began her nursing career in agency work, supporting the mental health of older adults, and working in aged care.
“I joined Amaroo simply because it was closer to my home, and I have stayed here for over seven years. What I like about Amaroo is the supportive team environment, the access to education, and most importantly: the bond I have with the residents in my care.”
Recently, Jyoti moved from one wing of Buckley Caring Centre to another, but she still visits her former residents as often as possible.
“You never forget someone you’ve cared for. I remember every single person. Even when I’m on holiday, I think about them. That’s how it is.”
Sharing her advice
If you are considering a career in care, Jyoti has one piece of advice:
“After completing your education, apply for as many positions as possible, and aim to make the best impression you can. Building trust with your team members by being honest, and getting plenty of references, is key. You can slowly work your way into the aged care sector – it is worth the extra effort!”
