At Amaroo@Home, we have been providing specialised home care to the Denmark community for over 7 years.
We are privileged to support the wellbeing of many residents within the Denmark area, each with their own unique journey.
In recognition of the remarkable lives we get to be a part of, we are thrilled to share with you the stories of several individuals from our Amaroo@Home community.
In our third blog post in this series, we introduce you to Johanna.
Meet Johanna
For over 10 years, Johanna has been a resident in our Amaroo Denmark Village.
One of 14 children, Johanna displays a clear love for family and moved to Denmark from Perth to be closer to several of her own kids.
“We would visit my daughter, Caroline, who lived there every year on holiday. My husband used to say to me I think when we retire, we should move there.”
With her husband sadly passing before they could move to Denmark together, Johanna made the move by herself.
“I knew I wanted to be closer to my children, so I went into Amaroo’s Perth office regarding a home for sale in their Denmark Village. I didn’t realise the sale process would be so quick, I hadn’t even told my sister yet!”
Accessing home care
Whilst she says she is blessed to now have her daughter and two sons living close by, Johanna is extremely grateful for the extra support that the Amaroo@Home team have provided for her over the past few years.
She has her home cleaned once a fortnight by our Amaroo@Home team, a service she began a few years ago when her back started to cause her pain.
“For a while I had a very bad back which often still occurs due to my arthritis, so I appreciate having someone around to clean and vacuum the house.”
She also has her garden maintained once a month by the Amaroo@Home team who cut back her roses and keep it looking neat and tidy.
Johanna explains that Amaroo@Home have helped her in addition to these services to ensure that she gets the most out of her Home Care Package.
“I actually got that recliner chair in the corner from them because they said that my old chair was far too big. They noticed that I couldn’t put my feet down and so I went to a shop in Albany where they measured me for a new one as part of my Home Care Package.”
Time for what matters
Through the support that our Amaroo@Home team has provided, Johanna is able to spend her time and energy enjoying what matters most to her.
She sees her 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren as much as possible and is always making something new in her home’s arts and crafts space.
“They always come and visit me. One of my great grandchildren is crazy about the moon and I made him a card using silver material which he loved!”
She also looks after her son’s dog from time to time, a long-haired Jack Russell who she says never barks.
