At Amaroo@Home, we have been providing specialised home care to the Denmark community for over 7 years.
We are privileged to support the wellbeing of many residents within the Denmark area, each with their own unique journey.
In recognition of the remarkable lives we get to be a part of, we are thrilled to share with you the stories of several individuals from our Amaroo@Home community.
In our fourth blog post in this series, we introduce you to Holly.
Meet Holly
Originally calling Perth home, Holly and her family moved to Denmark over 40 years ago.
At the time of their move, Holly was raising three young children whilst her husband worked full-time. She had also recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a condition she has had to manage ever since.
“I suddenly had deformed hands, and my knees were swollen, and I couldn’t walk. It started when I was 29 and it was very painful.”
With these factors in mind, Holly and her family decided to move to Denmark onto a share farm, where they could work and live with the help of others.
Keeping busy
Despite needing to manage her continued arthritis flare-ups, Holly spent time volunteering at her children’s school and for the Scouts.
After living on the share farm for a few years, Holly and her family moved into a two-bedroom millhouse, and then bought an old group settlement cottage, before eventually buying a block of land in Denmark.
In the years that have since passed, her children have moved around Australia – with one living in Karratha, another in Sydney and one in Denmark who is a highly respected member of our Amaroo@Home team.
Accessing home care
Sadly, Holly’s husband passed away from pancreatic cancer and she now lives independently, with additional help from our services. Due to her rheumatoid arthritis, Holly was assigned a Level 4 package.
“I had to have high care as I’d had my shoulder replaced and struggled with showering and changing. I needed quite a bit of assistance to help me.”
Holly currently receives personal care and domestic work services from our Amaroo@Home team.
“I’ve been very happy with Amaroo over the years. The girls down here do their very best.”
She continues to cook for herself and uses her mobility scooter to go into town and purchase items whenever she needs them.
Holly also mentions that she has a dear friend who drives her into Albany from time to time.
“I wouldn’t be able to stay at home if I had no services and I don’t particularly want to go into a care facility away from my home in Denmark.”
At Amaroo@Home we strive to ensure that clients like Holly get the most out of their Home Care Package. Our mission is to provide all the support they need to stay happy and healthy in the comfort of their own home.
If you or a loved one would benefit from any of our at-home support services, please call 1300 653 967 or visit our friendly team at 1/81 Strickland Street, Denmark for a cuppa and a chat.
