At Amaroo@Home, we have been providing specialised home care to the Denmark community for over 7 years.
We are privileged to support the wellbeing of many residents within the Denmark area, each with their own unique journey.
In recognition of the remarkable lives we get to be a part of, we are thrilled to share with you the stories of several individuals from our Amaroo@Home community.
In our first blog post in this series, we introduce you to Anne.
Meet Anne
Anne, who’s turning 80 this year, likes to maintain a busy life and keeps her diary full.
Whilst living in Perth, Anne worked at the Royal Perth Rehab facility for 14 years, initially not wanting to move to Denmark due to how much she loved her job.
“It was an education centre for people suffering with brain impairment. Mainly young adults and from all sorts of factors from brawls to car accidents – you name it,” Anne explains.
After moving to Denmark in 2001, Anne and her late husband Ron bought a 10-acre property in Springdale Heights.
Shortly after relocating, Anne secured a job at North Albany Senior Highschool in the education support centre, an autonomous unit where she taught and cared for teenagers with learning difficulties and behavioral problems. Anne quickly found herself enjoying her work once more and she continued working in this position for the duration of her time in Albany.
After Ron sadly lost his battle with cancer 6 years ago, Anne decided to downsize from their large Springdale Heights property, and she moved into her current home in Denmark.
Accessing home care
Nowadays Anne continues to live as independently as she possibly can, driving to Albany three times a week for both physiotherapy and to pick up her Coles click and collect shopping.
“I shop at Coles because I need to get my frequent flyer points. I haven’t paid for a Bali trip in years!” Anne laughs.
However, Anne knows remaining in her home wouldn’t be as easy without the help from our Amaroo@Home team.
“I am extremely grateful for the help that Amaroo@Home provides me. I receive domestic and gardening assistance once a week and personal care twice daily”, Anne explains.
“It has absolutely helped me stay at home. Without their help I would’ve just spent all day pottering around the house trying to get stuff done.
The girls are fantastic. Gita’s very nice and so is Caroline. Her mum actually teaches my pilates class”, Anne explains.
Living life to the fullest
To help remain active, Anne also partakes in chair pilates weekly as well as being a part of Probus Group that meets every month on a Tuesday.
When she’s not partaking in her activities she’s catching up with friends or at home with her cat companion Coco, who she took in from a lady who could no longer care for her.
“My diary is always packed but I love that.”
At Amaroo@Home, we strive to ensure that clients like Anne get the most out of their Home Care Package. Our mission is to provide all the support they need to stay happy and healthy in the comfort of their own home.
