In celebration of International Women’s Day, we have interviewed our staff on how they have been shaped into the women they are today and any advice they would give to young women starting out in the aged care industry.
In our second blog post, we introduce you to our Governance and Compliance Manager – Catherine.
Meet Catherine
Catherine’s journey at Amaroo began three years ago, when she joined Buckley Caring Centre as a Clinical Nurse Manager. It wasn’t long until Catherine’s unparalleled dedication, expertise and leadership shone through, and she was transferred to our Corporate team. Today, Catherine helps guide the Governance and Compliance at Buckley and McMahon Caring Centre and Amaroo@Home.
Dedicated to providing high-quality care
When asked what she loves most about her job, it was very simple for Catherine.
“I am very passionate about ensuring everyone receives care that is tailored to their needs.
One of the greatest achievements in my professional career was when a family of my resident referred the loved ones of their friends into my care. Knowing that I had made that much of a
difference to their lives made me feel very proud.”
Surrounding herself with strong and influential women
Reflecting on her life up until now, Catherine credits one influential woman on shaping her into who she is today.
“Being raised by an extremely strong, independent, and caring single mother has shaped me into the woman I am today.
From my mum, I have learnt the importance of resilience, patience and trusting in my own ability.”
Advice for the next generation of women in aged care
As a wife, mother of two teenage children, and successful professional, Catherine strongly believes in the importance of work-life balance.
“I absolutely love my job and get a lot of satisfaction from helping our staff, clients and residents – however, I also pride myself on being a hands-on mother.”
If Catherine had to provide the next generation of women in aged care with advice it would be to realise you can’t be everything to everyone.
“I cannot stress enough the importance of work-life balance, it’s pivotal to your success both personally and professionally.
Remember to always fill up your own cup and focus what is most important to you – then you will feel truly fulfilled and successful.”
