Our Amaroo lifestyle villages are vibrant communities where people live independent and active lives surrounded by other like-minded individuals.
However, there are many things you need to consider before deciding to move to an Amaroo Village, just as there are with any form of housing.
We have put together some of the advantages and potential disadvantages of living in a lifestyle village, as well as a list of questions to help you decide whether this style of living is the right fit for you.
Five benefits of living in a lifestyle village
1. Sense of community
Living close to similar-minded people can provide a great sense of comfort and foster community between residents. Being able to easily meet new people and make friends is a great highlight of living in a community environment.
2. Social activities
Lifestyle villages offer events, activities and outings for their residents. There is something for everyone and socialising has been linked with many health benefits.
At Amaroo, we offer a monthly activities schedule which includes bingo, happy hour, chair yoga, shopping trips and recreational outings.
3. Feeling safe and secure
For all of us, our safety is always a concern.
For your peace of mind, Amaroo Village features gated entrances, close neighbors, and on-site staff, all ensuring a secure and welcoming living environment.
If you choose to lock and leave you can feel safe knowing that you don’t have to worry about your home while you’re away on holidays.
4. Onsite facilities
Having a range of onsite facilities is a great perk of moving into a lifestyle village.
Amaroo Village offers facilities which include a café, arts and crafts room, library and hairdresser plus much more.
5. Low maintenance
Another benefit of living in a lifestyle village is having help when it comes to property maintenance. It’s extremely convenient having gardening and maintenance services provided by the village, freeing up significant time and energy.
Our Amaroo Maintenance team do a great job of ensuring our grounds are well-kept and visually appealing. This not only adds to the look of our residents’ surroundings but keeps them safe of any hazards which could lead to trips or falls.
Three potential disadvantages of living in a lifestyle village
1. Community living
Living in close quarters to other senior residents might not be for you if you prefer more privacy and solitude and know that your temperament is not suited to community living.
2. Adjusting to a smaller home
For some, downsizing into a smaller home can be a big adjustment.
Moving from a larger home or large block of land to a relatively high-density village arrangement can come with some challenges.
3. Not care-based
Lifestyle villages do not offer care services for you at home.
Living is completely independent and any home care services, such as our Amaroo@Home packages, must be organised by you.
If you’re someone with more complex medical needs, moving into a lifestyle village may not be the right fit.

- If my health is failing, should I actually be considering a move to residential aged care?
- Can I cope with letting other people make decisions about the village, including financial matters?
Questions to ask us
- What facilities are available if I become sick?
- What are the financial implications if I want to leave?
- What are the rules about pets, visitors and car parking?
