How do I access Home Care Services?

In this blog post, we take you through the steps you need to take when applying for a Home Care Package.

 

What is a Home Care Package?

A Home Care Package is a government-funded program that provides you with individualised care services to help you live independently in your own home.

Amaroo@Home provides the full range of high-quality services you may require, allowing us to support you both now and as your needs may change in the future.

 

Who is eligible for a Home Care Package?

You or your loved one may be eligible for a government subsidised Home Care Package if you:

  • Are a senior Australian aged 65+ who needs help to stay safe and comfortable at home
  • Are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander aged 50+

 

How do I access a Home Care Package?

There are a few steps to receiving a Home Care Package.

 

Step 1: Check your eligibility

To find out if you’re eligible, contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or go to the My Aged Care website.

The Aged Care Assessment Team will ask you a series of questions to understand whether you require an at-home assessment.

 

Step 2: ACAT Assessment

If deemed necessary, the Aged Care Assessment team will contact you to organise your assessment either in your home or virtually.

They will determine the level of home care that you’re eligible for and whether you’re able to access the Federal Government’s Home Care Subsidy.

 

Step 3: Means testing

Amaroo@Home care packages are means tested. You must complete and lodge an Aged Care Fees Income Assessment (SA456) form with the Department of Human Services to confirm if any means testing applies.

 

Step 4: Package allocation

If you are deemed eligible for a Home Care Package, you will be placed in a national queue.

You’ll be notified when an appropriate care package is allocated to you, and you will be provided with a referral code.

Simply provide this referral code to us and we can provide you an Amaroo@Home package tailored to best suit your needs.

 

I’m not eligible – what can I do?

At Amaroo@Home we also offer private home care services for those who require them.

If you are not eligible for a Home Care Package, are waiting to receive your Package and/or need home care directly and promptly our private home care services are available to you.

As private services are self-funded, you can access the care you need on either a short or long-term basis.
