At Amaroo, we are fortunate to have a team of over 400 people across our facilities working together to care for older Australians.
Whether that be our nurses, personal care workers, allied health professionals, maintenance staff, cooks, cleaners, or administrative staff – we all play a role in ensuring our clients and residents live their best lives.
In the leadup to Aged Care Employee Day, we are spotlighting a variety of our staff at Amaroo who have gone above and beyond in providing direct and indirect care.
In our first blog post, we introduce you to our Manager of Property & Assets – Craig.
Meet Craig
Craig joined Amaroo over 16 years ago as a member of our maintenance team.
“In the early days, I was part of the grounds team. I would be on the ground tending to maintenance requests at both the Gosnells Village and at our Care Facilities.”
After only a few years in this role, Craig was then promoted to Leading Hand and shortly after had the added responsibility of Maintenance Coordinator.
“I helped coordinate the day-to-day operations of the grounds team and handled daily maintenance requests. In this role, I also created safe working and operating procedures for new employee inductions and assisted the General Manager with obtaining quotes and formalising service agreements.”
After many years of hard work at Amaroo, Craig is now our Manager of Property & Assets. In this role, Craig oversees the operations of our Gosnells, Denmark and Albany Villages, Buckley Caring Centre, and McMahon Caring Centre.
Passionate about making a difference
At Amaroo, we provide independent living for all our Village residents, which would not be possible without the work from Craig and his team.
“What I love most about my job at Amaroo is helping our residents. Whether that be maintaining their lawns and gardens or completing maintenance requests, I always strive to make sure there are positive outcomes for all.”
The key to success
We all know that it takes a special type of person to work in aged care.
“You need to have empathy and genuine compassion for the elderly. A lot of the time, they might just want to have a chat with someone who will listen. It’s this type of care that takes you above and beyond in your role.”
Bust most importantly, Craig believes that you must have a heart for all residents and clients.
“Every person comes from a different background and has a different story. You must always be polite, kind and treat everyone with respect. As aged care workers, we are privileged to support them, and make their lives that little bit easier.”
Exploring the Perth outdoors
Outside of work, you can find Craig exploring the outdoors and hiking Perth’s best trails with his wife. Craig is also an avid kayaker and fisher and captures stunning landscape and wildflower photography. The images below were taken by Craig himself – we think he’s a great photographer!
At Amaroo, we are always looking for individuals who are passionate and genuinely want to make a difference in the lives of others.
If this sounds like you, then we want to hear from you.
